Information for participants and carers

About the study SCOOP is a randomised controlled trial. It aims to demonstrate whether a community-based screening programme can help prevent fragility fractures in older women. Some women are more likely to suffer a fracture in later years, even if they do not have a family history of the brittle bone disease osteoporosis. Those in the screening group in this study who are found to be at higher risk of breaking a bone will be offered treatment by their GP that has been proven to be effective in helping to prevent fractures.
